Fish, Fish, Shark

Camp Sunny Patch Session 3: Splish Splash Boom

(Taken from: blog.melissaanddoug.com)

Put a twist on "duck, duck, goose" with this fun water game. Have your kids gather in a circle and let the “It” person choose a few toys that can hold water, like a squirt toy for "Fish", and a squishy ball for "Shark". The “It” person will circle around saying, “Fish” as she squirts each player on the head. When she’s ready, she will swap the squirt toy for a squishy ball (these dispense more water) and squish the toy over a players head declaring SHARK!

The shark will jump up with a water toy of their own and chase the “It” person until they get a good squirt. The shark will become the “It” person next and the game continues until everyone has had a turn.

Hot Lava

(Picture from: flickr.com)

Here's an old, simple classic  game that can be played in a variety of settings and with a variety of objects. Kids pretend that they are escaping an active volcano. Place random objects around the floor or playground (pillow cases, dish towels, newspaper, crates, etc.) Work your way across the path making sure not to touch the "hot lava" (the ground). See who can cross the room first.

Sidewalk Chalk Game

(Taken from: littlehandsbigwork.com)

Creating a fun game that gets your kids moving is as easy as getting out some chalk and drawing some circles.

Draw a bunch of circles in different colors, making paths. Make some paths harder than others. The idea is to choose a color and then jump in only that color as you make it to the other side. Make it a race by each choosing a different color and seeing who can make it across the fastest.

Homemade Parachute

No fancy fabric necessary for a kid-pleasing parachute

Here's a simple home recipe for fun. Blow up several balloons, put them on a bedsheet, and let the kids all take a corner and try to keep the balloons moving by raising it up and down like a parachute.

Water Balloon Catch

As the weather heats up, keep this idea in your back pocket for a fun way to get your kids moving outdoors, while cooling off.

Water Balloon Catch

(Taken from: spoonful.com)

What you'll need

  • Gallon-size milk jugs (one for each player)
  • Tape
  • Ribbons
  • Water balloons

How to play

  1. Create the catchers by cutting the bottom off a gallon-size milk jug (one for each player), taping the cut edges, and decorating with ribbon, as shown.

  2. Fill a bunch of water balloons to the size of a grapefruit.

  3. See how many times you can toss the balloons without breaking them or how far you can catch and throw them.

Reverse Easter Egg Hunt

Activities for Kids: Reverse Easter Egg Hunting

Get your kids outside and moving with a fun twist on an Easter Egg hunt. Instead of having them search for plastic eggs that have already been filled, give them empty eggs and tell them to go explore and fill them with things they find (sand, twigs, berries, leaves, etc.) You can give them a list of things to find, or let them be creative. Another take on this would be to tell them to try to find things the same color as the egg. Have fun!

Newspaper Snowball Fight

For all of us that don't actually get real snow in the wintertime, why not try a newspaper snowball fight?

(Taken from: trainupachildlearnaswego.blogspot.com)

Beforehand, crumple up some old newspaper into balls (add masking tape if you plan on doing this over and over again).  Create some barricades if you wish. The one below was created by putting a sheet over a soccer goal.

Let your kids go wild and then have them help clean up afterward by throwing the balls into the recycle bin.

Who needs snow anyway?!
